All's I have left to do now is to add the website in the bottom right and add details in small text next to each story. I decided to remove the word contents from the top because it didn't look professional.

Finished Album Cover For The Contents

This is the best I could do to replicate the album cover that I chose. This will on the contents page above the other stories inside. I used the blue over it with a red smudge to be the paint. I couldn't use the same font due to the computer not having it but I used the most similar font I could find. I made the hair darker like the album has it too.

Final Images

I had a change of plan due to the people I wanted to use not be available so I decided to highlight TRXYE on my magazine contents instead of the TOP 10 story. For this, I want to base my image on a real album but change the image used. I will tint the image and add the brush streak over the eyes and add the box with TRXYRE over it.

 

 I have taken the close up shots that I am going to edit. 

Mostly Finished Front Cover

Here is my finished front cover for my magazine. It has only one image on it but I wanted to use it as the main image and as the background anyway so it was what I planned. The colours worked out the way I wanted to. The purple didn't look bold enough on its own so I added the black borders to the font and a white inside glow and it made it stand out well. I added a banner across the top even though it wasn't in my plan but the space was to blank without it. I didn't want to make the picture any bigger because his arms would be cut out of the image and i wanted the image to look the way it is. The barcode, price and issue is on the bottom right still. I adjusted the cover lines on the front cover to be placed on plain parts of the image and the background so it doesn't take any of the attention away from the main image. The beach in the background looks fake but that was the look I wanted so it would look cheesy and portray pop music. All of the text had black borders and white inside glows because it didn't look right having only the purple bordered but I liked the way it looked because it looked. I might make a few final adjustments before I hand the work away to make it look a little better. I might make the main image bigger to have less of the blue background because it looks a little plain. I might also move the main cover line down a bit to fill the space at the bottom more.

Magazine Logo

This is my magazine logo. This can be easily recognised as a music magazine logo sue to both symbols being musical notes. I chose the colour purple so it will stand out next to the title and on the background. This also means that some of the smaller text I will use can be people to keep with the colour theme. This will include the smaller cover lines, page numbers and image captions.

Magazine Reference

NME is a general music magazine however, if it features pop artists or groups, the front cover will change and use vivid colours to emphasise the pop genre. NME also changes the colours of the masthead font so the whole magazine will be determined by the colours of the masthead. In this case, it is a bright pink masthead which is a pop related colour. 

Other examples of the masthead are here to prove how they change depending on the genre. 

Main Image

Here is the image after I had edited it that I am going to use on my front cover. I will remove the background on the outside of the photo frame and replace it with my magazine colours for the background. The beach image in the background looks out of the ordinary but i wanted it to look fake because thats what I vision the music video to be for it. I added a hat because the hair didn't Photoshop well and the hat managed to hide the parts that were different. 

More Images

I still have one more image to take but I have taken more images to use. I have the image that I want to use for the front cover now though so I can continue to make progress with my front cover now. I will have the inside of the photo frame background like a cheesy setting to emphasise that it is pop music. Something like a beach will do. The background outside of the photo frame will be the magazine colours. In some pictures I have taken, his shadow covered his face which would be a problem. Some of them blurred to. Magazine Images

 I haven't yet taken all of the images I am going to use but here are some that I am going to use. I will have the picture of Leon leaning on the wall to be used on the contents as if he is leaning on the actual words of the contents next to him. The image of the him pressed against the glass will be edited to be like a mirror and he is the reflection. The final image will be edited in front of the 'mirror reflection' so it looks like the reflection is posed differently to him. This will be used in the article so it relates to the title of the single written about. (Mirror Frame)

Prop and Model Arrangements

I have asked the art department in my school if I am able to use a larger photo frame for my main image photo and they said it would be alright if I did so. I have also asked a friend to be the model for the photos and we have agreed on a time and a place. We have also discussed an outfit for it too. I still need 2 more models to use but I have ideas of who to use and they will be free. I just need to ask them if they are willing to do it.

Magazine Double Page Spread Layout

I will keep with the house style using the colours orange, red, yellow and purple for different points. The main image will be someone looking into a mirror and seeing a different reflection of a pose they are not doing. It will take a whole page with the title of the article so the other page will be used for the article itself. 

Contents Plan

I wanted my plan to look similar to Q magazine however i put my own twist on it. The numbers and stories will be written the same but with my colour scheme. There will also be a header on my page because it will only be a one page contents compared to the two pages in Q magazine. My magazine will also have social media information on it too rather than using the contact page at the back so that it can stand out as a unique selling point.

Font Cover Plan Drawing

I decided the colours should all be bright and colourful to symbolise fun pop artists and characters. The writing will be blocky and an abbreviation because it is well known as a magazine although the meaning of the letters are at the side of the title. A logo will be on the top corner of the magazine just under the title. The barcode will be in the lower right where it can remain the least noticed and the other cover lines will be at the side so they don't distract from the main image. There will be social media logos in the bottom left corner to make people aware that the magazine has social media accounts for a little more information. The main image will have the actual background in the frame but on the outside of the frame, it will be just the magazine colours. The main cover line will be the second biggest font on the cover. (I want to change the name of the single to mirror frame on the actual magazine). There will be a special offer in the top right of the magazine to also grab the audiences attention and give yet another reason to buy the magazine.

Magazine Front Cover Plan

I wanted the main image on my from cover to be like the title sequence of 'modern faily' a little bit. I wanted the main 'artist' to be holding a photo frame but with himself in it as this image will relate to his new single 'Frame It'.

This will be the only picture on the front cover which may challenge some conventions because I don't have any other picture. This will however be because the main image will be an artist that is so popular and famous, no other images will be needed as selling points. There will also be other cover lines on the front cover too anyway so other images won't be necessary. 

Main Task - Location Shots

I went down to New Brighton so that I could get some shots of the beach. I would like to do some of my actual magazine shots down on the beach because it seems like a fun and cheesy thing to do for a pop music magazine. I like the background of the beach because a picture can be drawn in the sand or the waves can crash behind the people which can make a good looking and fun picture. Here are a few examples of the photo ideas I had for a magazine cover or for the contents page:

It was a shame the weather was a bit gloomy but other than that I really like these photographs and may possibly recreate them using the rule of thirds on a better looking day for the front cover of my magazine.

Preliminary Task

Preliminary Task Completed

I have completed the front cover and contents page of my school magazine. The front cover went according to plan although  would of liked to have been able to take a shot that followed the rules of thirds without me having to crop it. Also I would like the photo to focus on the student facing forwards, rather than the shoulder of the other student. I also noticed a spelling mistake in the tagline (update) which would need to be fixed for a school magazine. I like the colour scheme because it matched the uniform of the student. The same house style is on the contents page with the same font and colours. I like the main image on the contents however it doesn't really follow the rules of thirds which could be improved. The contents also seems to have a lot of unused blank space.
Overall I like the layout and colours of the magazine however I would of liked to have had used a school logo on the front cover and contents, fixed the blurred main image and get more things to fill the blank space on the contents.

Contents Page

I made my contents page with the same background as the front cover to keep with the house style.  I added the title in the same font and colour to so the same. I then added a large image as a main image for the contents page. 

I then added the stories with the page numbers with smaller images next to it. I also put a page number in the corner of the page. The font of the contents was all the same with the same colour but just smaller.

Stages of Creating the Front Cover

I decided to remove the background from my image as it was too plain so I wanted to replace it with a colour. I did this using the quick select tool and then erasing the little extra features left over. I then created a new layer, put a gradient on it using the colour red as the background. The colour yellow was used so it wasn't too bold as a background but so the colours matched the uniform.

 


















I then added a title, some stories and the time and date all in the same font and colour. My house style will be red and orange colours.

I then put a tagline of it below the title in a smaller font. (The tagline has a spelling mistake which needs to be fixed/improved)
